Social Media Screening

Job seekers are beginning to utilize social media sites to screen potential employees now more than ever.

A recent survey was completed by Reppler to determine when and how job recruiters are screening candidates and on what social networks. The study shows that 91% of recruiters have visited a candidate’s social network profile as part of the screening process.

A shocking statistic shows that 69% of recruiters have rejected a candidate based on content found on their profiles. Conversely, 68% of hiring managers have hired a candidate based on their social networking profiles.

Almost half of recruiters surveyed check social media sites soon after they have received anapplication, before any initial conversation with the prospective employee. Facebook is the most frequently checked social media site when screening candidates

The most common reason for rejection of candidates is if they’ve lied about their qualifications. Other common factors for rejection are; demonstrated poor communication skills, posted negative comments about a previous employer, and posted inappropriate photos or comments.
