How Page Likes are Counted on Facebook to Change

shutterstock_228736198In an announcement just yesterday, Facebook said it is “updating the way Page likes are counted by removing memorialized and voluntarily deactivated accounts from Pages’ like counts.”

You can read the entire announcement here.

Facebook already excludes likes and comments from these accounts from Page posts, so this change should only yield more consistent data. It should also result in a more accurate count of those who actively follow a Page.

While this update is expected to cause only a “small dip” in the number of likes a Page has received, it is something that anyone who has a Page on Facebook, especially Page admins, will want to be mindful of going forward when they look at the number of likes on their Page.
