Director of Paid Media
Summary:
The Director of Paid Media is responsible for overseeing the execution and performance of paid media campaigns across search, social, and emerging digital channels. This role works cross-functionally to translate marketing objectives into effective paid media strategies and ensures campaigns are delivered on time, on budget, and optimized for performance. The Director manages a team of paid media professionals and collaborates closely with creative, analytics, and broader marketing teams to drive measurable results.
Roles and Responsibilities
Campaign Leadership & Strategy Execution
- Lead the development and execution of paid media campaigns aligned with business and marketing objectives.
- Translate high-level strategic goals into actionable media plans, identifying optimal platforms and tactics.
- Ensure campaign KPIs are clearly defined, tracked, and optimized against.
Team Oversight & Development
- Manage and support a team of paid media specialists.
- Provide clear direction, constructive feedback, and professional development opportunities.
- Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot challenges and refine workflows.
Paid Search & Social Campaign Management
- Oversee paid search initiatives across platforms like Google Ads and Bing, optimizing for reach, relevance, and ROI.
- Manage and enhance paid social campaigns across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube, Pinterest, and more.
- Partner with creative teams to develop high-performing assets and messaging.
- Stay current on industry trends and algorithm changes across paid channels.
Performance Tracking & Optimization
- Monitor campaign performance metrics and make data-informed recommendations for improvement.
- Implement A/B tests, audience refinements, and creative iterations to improve campaign effectiveness.
- Work with analytics teams to create dashboards and performance reports.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with internal marketing, brand, creative, and data teams to ensure campaign alignment.
- Coordinate with external vendors, platforms, and media partners to support campaign delivery and innovation.
Budget & Vendor Management
- Manage campaign budgets at the tactical level, ensuring efficient spend and pacing.
- Support the negotiation and coordination with media vendors and tech partners.
- Provide recommendations for reallocating spend based on performance insights.
Client & Stakeholder Communication
- Maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external clients, ensuring alignment on campaign goals.
- Share performance updates, insights, and media plans in a clear and concise manner.
- Incorporate stakeholder feedback into ongoing campaign optimization.
- 6–10 years of experience in paid media, with hands-on expertise in campaign planning and execution across search and social platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor team members.
- Strong understanding of media analytics, attribution models, and performance measurement.
- Proficiency with platforms such as Google Ads, Meta Ads Manager, TikTok Ads, and related tools (Google Analytics, Looker Studio, etc.).
- Excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, or related field (Master’s a plus but not required).
